Group C : Netherlands 2 - 0 Austria

Round 2 of Group C, another match between the Netherlands and Austria.

The Netherlands had a meeting against Ukraine in the first match, but they won 3-2. The attack power was excellent, but the defense remained a challenge.

Austria, on the other hand, also scored three goals to win against North Macedonia, who played for the first time.

The Netherlands took the lead. In the 11th minute of the first half, Dumfries was defeated in PE and the Netherlands had a chance to PK. Depay decided this, and the Netherlands took the lead easily.

ベスト16の戦い。初日のもう一つの試合は、グループA1位のイタリアと、グループC2位のオーストリアの戦い。 イタリアは、グループステージではトルコ、スイスにそれぞれ3-0と快勝、最後のウェールズ戦はメンバーを代えながらそれでも1-0。 攻撃的なプレースタイルが機能していて、危なげない戦い方。 しかし、これまでの3試合は全てホームのローマで行われた。この試合はイタリアにとっては初めてのローマ以外での試合。ロンドンでもこれまで通りの戦いができるのか。 一方のオーストリアは、初戦の北マケドニアに3-1で勝ったが、続くオランダ戦には0-2と完敗。最後のウクライナ戦で1-0と競り勝って、ベスト16に勝ち進んだ。 そのウクライナ戦では、様子見のウクライナに対して積極的に攻撃して先制し、残りの時間を守り切った戦術の巧みさが印象的だった。 イタリアはFIFAランキングで7位、オーストリアは23位。 試合は、イタリア、オーストリアがそれぞれ攻撃を繰り返し、一進一退の展開。 65分、右サイドからのセンタリング、アラバが頭で折り返し、最後はアルナウトビッチがゴールラインギリギリから頭で合わせてゴールと思われたが、これはVARでオフサイドの判定。 その後も両者譲らず、試合は今大会初の延長戦へ。 95分、右サイドでフリーになったキエーザが、最後はDFをかわして左足でゴールを決めて、遂にイタリアが先制した。 105分、イタリアはさらにペッシーナがゴール前の混戦から最後は左足で決めて、2-0。 しかしオーストリアは諦めない。114分にカライジッチが右サイドからの低いコーナーキックに、体を投げ出し頭で合わせて1点を返した。 イタリアは、これが12試合ぶりの失点となった。試合はそのままタイムアップ。 イタリアは、グループステージのような戦いがなかなかできずに、危ういシーンも何度か迎えたが、延長戦の末に粘るオーストリアを振り切って、何とかベスト8を決めた。 しかし、グループステージでは見えなかった様々な課題が明らかになり、これからも厳しい戦いが予想される。 オーストリアは、この大会の開幕前の評判はそれほどでもなかったが、始まってみれば個々のプレーヤーの質の高さ、戦術の見事さを世界に見せつけた。 3回目の出場で初めてのベスト16へ進出を果たし、成功した大会だったと言えるだろう。

死のグループと言われるグループFの最終戦。前回王者のポルトガルと、2018年ワールドカップ王者のフランスの戦い。 ポルトガルは、初戦でハンガリーに苦しみながら残り10分で3ゴールをあげて勝利。しかし続いてのドイツとの試合は2-4で完敗。 一方のフランスは、初戦のドイツには1-0で勝利したが、第2戦では地元サポーターの大声援を受けて大健闘のハンガリーに1-1の引き分け。 両チームとも、死のグループの中で思い通りの結果があげられていない。 前半26分、ダニーロがGKに倒されてポルトガルにPKのチャンス。これをロナウドが決めて、ポルトガルが先制。 ロスタイムに、今度はエムベパがPE内で倒されてフランスのPK。これをベンゼマが決めてフランスが同点に追いついた。 48分、ベンゼマがDFの裏に抜け出て右足でシュート。左のゴール・ポストに当たって跳ね返りゴール。 60分、ロナウドのセンタリングにコンデがPE内でハンド。ポルトガルにPKが与えられた。これをロナウドが自らPKを決めて、ポルトガルが同点に。 その後は両チームとも譲らず、2-2のままでタイムアップ。 ロナルドとベンゼマという、かつてのレアル・マドリードのFW2人が全ての得点をあげた。試合後、お互い肩を抱いて旧交を温めていたのが印象的だった。 フランスは、2勝1分でグループ首位となったが、2018年ワールドカップの頃と比べると、戦力はダウンしているように見える。 ポルトガルは、得失点差の関係でドイツに次ぐ3位となり、何とかベスト16には残ることができた。
